Being Virtual with hTC Vive VR Headset: MWC15, GDC15

hTC to vie the market of virtual reality has pulled off the curtain from its first virtual reality headset named Vive in the partnership with Valve. hTC has developed the device and Valve has powered it with its Steam VR platform. Unlike all available headsets, it is capable in offering more spacious user experience by utilizing the full room.

Yes, the HTC Vive will let you to walk in a simulated 3D environment. To take the benefit of this headgear, you will have to get up out from seat. This gadget is not smartphone centric as stated in Engadget report. It is said that it can directly plug into the PC to give you the full access of enjoying the all 3D content.

The tech giant showed the developer edition prototype of this headgear. If all go well, then we will see the Vive developer edition very soon in Spring 2015 and the full consumer version will be scheduled to launch in winter during holiday. Both techos, the hTC and Valve demoed the Vive VR Headset at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and Game Developers Conference in San Francisco respectively.

As aforementioned, this VR Headset will make the use of full room space to offer virtual environment. However, both companies have not discussed about the procedure of this functionality. How it will function is quite a trade secret. However, it is said that the hTC Vive will equip with some motion tracking sensors to track the movements in a room.

When going to the specs side, you will get 1,200 by 1,080 pixel screens for both eyes that boasts the video at 90 frames per second, which is a big jump from old VR headsets available in market like Oculus Rift and Gear VR. Gyrosensor, accelerometer, and laser position sensors are used to track the head’s movement.  A pair of Steam VR base stations will help to track your position in the room of upto 15 feet by 15 feet.
