BlackBerry is thinking to Bring Virtual SIM for India

What if you find your single SIM in smartphone is giving you the option of 9 mobile numbers? Now, you are thinking that what rubbish I am talking about. But, it’s not a prank as it’s not an April Fool day. We are saying this because the Canada-based smartphone manufacturer BlackBerry is looking to bring something innovative and this project is for India.

BlackBerry on Thursday said that it is in talks with regulatory authorities and telecom operators of India to make virtual SIM concept possible for the country. If, the juggernaut gets success in convince Indian regulatory to launch virtual SIM solution, then Indians will be able to use a single SIM for 9 different numbers.

Sunil Lalvani, BlackBerry India MD said, "We will soon be rolling out virtual SIM solution in India, hopefully by the end of this year. The technology is ready, we are working on regulatory clearances." Mind behind this virtual SIM technology is Movirtu which was acquired last year by the Canada based tech giant.

It’s a cross-platform technology so it can be adaptable by every kind of user. Whether you are a user of iOS device or you have an Android and Windows Phone based device. You can take the benefit of this technology i.e. single SIM for nine different numbers.

MD also said, "This technology allows an individual have up to nine identities using a single SIM. While from technology perspective a user can choose have nine numbers from different operators, in India due to the regulatory environment customers can opt only for one operator."

Africa is currently taking the advantage of this virtual SIM solution while Blackberry is in talks for releasing the same for Europe and other Asia Pacific countries.
