A team of Engineers from University of Minnesota Duluth, China's Sun Yat-sen University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison has created Nanogenerator which operates on vibration energy. Through this you can charge your smartphone from any moving surface like passenger seat of moving vehicle without any need of electrical cord.

Development of Nanogenerator technology will use as self charging electronics for smartphones. It can convert vibration energy which will generate from a moving surface, into electric power to charge a smartphone.

How it works?

The device is depicted as Mesoporous Piezoelectric Nanogenerator. The device takes benefit of PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride). PVDF is a kind of piezoelectric polymer material that can transform electricity or mechanical strain from mechanical force and applied electrical field respectively. Vibration energy is yielded from Sponge like material. For small vibration, the material should be softer.

What is Nanogenerator?

Nanogenerator is a technology which converts mechanical or thermal energy into electricity. Small changes in physical movement transform it into the electricity.

What is Vibration Energy?

Nanogenerator’s vibration energy concept is based on piezoelectric approach which means electric charge is collected from some biological substance like DNA, bone etc. or solid materials.
