Nokia Contributes 1% of Global Smartphone Sale in Q4 2017

The present-day Santa Claus draws its roots from an old Finnish Christmas figure ‘Joulupukki’. And if Finland based mobile company Nokia had any Christmas wishes for their very own ‘Joulupukki’, they must have been granted. Slowly but surely, the leader of the yesteryears is making its presence felt in the constantly changing smartphone market. Meanwhile, Nokia HMD Global is all geared up with its latest lineup of smartphones running on Android at MWC 2018. Nokia 9 and Nokia 1 could be the new showstoppers for them.

As per a report by Counterpoint Research, Nokia licensee HMD Global managed to capture 1 percent of global market share in terms of sales in Q4 2017. Ever since Nokia made a shift to Android-powered smartphones, there has been a steady increase in shipments. Riding on a new found growth, Nokia is making a much-awaited comeback into the global mobile market. The company has a plethora new products for 2017. The lineup includes the likes of Nokia 2, Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6, Nokia 7, Nokia 8, and multiple variants of Nokia 3310. Further, MWC 2018 in late February will witness more product launches from the company.

The growth in market share and brand rebirth can be credited to the Company successfully using sentimental value within dealers and customers paired with quality smartphone launches. Nokia has shipped around 4.15 million units last quarter and total sales for the year stood at 8.45 million. However, the company had reportedly shipped 9.8 million Lumia smartphones in the same time period after launch.

HMD Global launches the smartphones with Nokia branding. Fresh from the Microsoft deal, Nokia 150 was the first baby of the Union. At the MWC 2017, the company launched its first Android-based Nokia 6. It was subsequently released in China also. However, it was the launch
of the revamped Nokia 3310 (2017) model that garnered the much desired global attention synonymous to its glory days. The subsequent release of Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 Arte Black further added the required momentum for accelerated growth.

Today, Nokia smartphones are being well received in the market. The brand has a diverse portfolio. Nokia has its presence across all smartphone categories and price segments. Nokia HMD now offers buyers a wide range of products from budget smartphones like the Nokia 2 to the premium Nokia 8 and the 4G variant of the Nokia 3310.
