Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A Launched in China, Features, Price, Specifications

After being in the rumors from last few weeks, finally, Xiaomi has launched two new smartphones, the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A at an event conducted in China on 12th June. The newly launched Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A are the successors of last year launched Redmi 5 and Redmi 5A.

The key highlighting features of the Redmi 6 includes Face Unlock, 18:9 aspect ratio, horizontally placed dual- rear cameras. The Xiaomi Redmi 6 is equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered camera features.

Redmi 6, Redmi 6A Price and Availability

In China, the Redmi 6 is priced at CNY 799 roughly translates to Rs 8,400 for 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. However, the high 4GB RAM/64GB internal storage variant is available at CNY 999 (approximately Rs 10,500). On another hand, Redmi 6A has been priced at CNY 599 which translates to Rs 6,300 for 2GB RAM and16GB inbuilt storage variant. The newly launched Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A will be available for purchase from 15th June via the flash sale in its home country starting at 10 am CST.

Redmi 6 Specifications

The Xiaomi Redmi 6 features a 5.45-inch HD+ display, 18:9 aspect ratio, 80.7 percent screen-to-body ratio and a screen resolution of 720x1440 pixels. It runs on top of the line Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box. The Redmi 6 is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 processor clocked at 2GHz, paired with 3GB/ 4GB RAM and 32GB/ 64GB internal storage which can be further extended up to up to 256GB by using a memory card.

In terms of photography, the Redmi 6 features horizontally positioned dual- rear cameras consisting of 12- megapixel primary camera and 5-megapixel secondary camera. The rear camera set up comes with 1.25-micron pixels and AI-powered features. At the front, the smartphone gets a 5-megapixel camera for selfies and video calling.

The Redmi 6 has 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, GPS/ A-GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Micro-USB port as connectivity options. Sensors on the smartphone are accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, gyroscope, infrared, and proximity sensor. The dimensions of Redmi 6 are 147.5x71.5 x 8.3mm and it weighs around 146 grams. Under the hood, it packs a 3000mAh battery.

Xiaomi listed in its official website, “Redmi 6 offers many AI-enabled functions. When you pick up the phone, the screen will automatically wake and you can unlock the phone with AI Face Unlock. By integrating with the phone’s camera, Xiaomi’s proprietary Xiao Ai voice assistant can recognize plants, vehicles, living environments, as well as items for price comparison.

For certain scenarios, Xiao Ai can translate English, French, Japanese, Korean, German, Spanish and Hindi into Chinese. Xiao Ai can also detect SMS messages sent by fake mobile base stations set up by scammers, protecting users against possible attacks,” said Xiaomi on its website.

Xiaomi Redmi 6A Specifications

The major highlighting difference between Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A is that latter comes with 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, single rear camera and MediaTek A22 SoC. In terms of optics, the Redmi 6A sport a single 13-megapixel rear camera with an aperture of f/2.2 and PDAF. For selfie and video calling, the smartphone has 5-megapixel front- facing camera offering an aperture of f/2.2 and Portrait mode. The remaining specifications of Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A is identical to each other.
