Samsung Galaxy S8 Will Come With Pre-Installed McAfee Antivirus Software

The Samsung has officially announced that the company will ship its flagship Galaxy S8 smartphone with the McAfee antivirus software pre-installed in the device. Additionally, the company has also announced that its McAfee VirusScan anti-malware technology will also be made available for the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge and the Galaxy Note 5. Apart from smartphones, the Samsung’s PCs will come with McAfee LiveSafe cross-device security that will be free for 60-days and after that users will get special offers for renewal. It must be noted that the Samsung has already incorporated Samsung Smart TVs with the ultra advanced McAfee Security for TV anti-malware technology that will soon be made available in the US and Korean markets, while other global markets will be added by the first half of 2017.

A few days back, John McAfee, the founder of McAfee said that he's working on a phone called the Privacy Phone, which would be the "world's first truly private phone." He believes that irrespective of how secure apps become and that "they must still execute an environment designed from the ground to be a spy device." He said that the phone would have physical switches on the back to turn of antennas, WiFi, geolocation, camera and more. These switches could also be used to bar the device from connecting to IMSI catchers.

To recall, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ was launched in India in the month of April, with the starting price of Rs. 57,900 and Rs. 64,900 respectively. Samsung Galaxy S8 has been featured with a 5.8-inch QHD+ (1440x2960 pixels) along with a Super AMOLED display whereas Galaxy S8 Plus featured with a 6.2-inch QHD+ (1440x2960 pixels) Super AMOLED display. Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus has been protected with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Both the smartphones have been offered an internal storage of 4 GB (RAM) and external storage of 64GB that further can be extended up to (up to 256GB) via microSD card.

McAfee Mobile Security

Galaxy S8 variant will be powered by a Samsung Exynos 8895 SoC and this feature is available only in India whereas the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC variants will be available in the selected regions including the US. This should not be a deal-breaker for potential buyers in India, two SoCs were spotted for the comparison of performance. In fact, the Samsung Exynos 8895 SoC beat the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC in some benchmarks.

On the camera front, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 plus offers a 12-megapixel 'Dual Pixel' rear camera along with an optical image stabilization and a f/1.7 aperture, and 8-megapixel front camera along with autofocus feature on board and also featuring a f/1.7 aperture. Both smartphones provide a range of connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2.4GHz, 5GHz), USB Type-C, 4G LTE (Cat. 16), GPS and NFC. From sensors board, it includes barometer, accelerometer, magnetometer, proximity sensor, heart rate sensor and gyroscope. Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus both support NFC and MST connectivity options.
