Smart Personal Electronic Gears Launched Alongside LG G5 at MWC 2016

The MWC 2016 trade show is going on with full flavor in Barcelona, Spain and most of the companies are featuring their products with full exuberance. South Korean company LG too launched its most awaited LG G5 smartphone featuring a metal body and over the top specifications. However, the company gave no information about the price and the availability of other accessories that come along with LG G5. Other than the smartphone, the company has also revealed an expandable module which can be utilised to enhance the camera and battery of the phone and many other similar products that promise to enhance the overall user experience of the user.

In terms of specifications, LG G5 sports a 5.3-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 820 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage that can be expanded using a microSD card. It sports two rear camera's each of 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel whilst on the front side, it sports one 8-megapixel camera. The smartphone is powered by a 2800mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0.

It offers standard connectivity options like 4G LTE, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and, USB Type-C port compatible with USB 3.0 standard and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The handset comes in four color variants namely: Silver, Gold, Pink, and Titan.

The company also launched two separate modules:

  • Cam Plus
  • Hi-Fi Plus with B&O Play module

The Cam Plus can be attached to the G5 through the battery slot, and offer "comfortable grip and convenient control of a DSLR." The company says that the LG Cam Plus will enhance the camera experience by offering autofocus, exposure lock, and give them a physical button for power, shutter and other photography features. It also adds an additional 1200mAh battery to the phone.

The Hi-Fi Plus with B&O Play module, on the contrary, is used to enhance the overall audio experience to the LG G5 user as it supports 32-bit and 384KHz high-definition audio playback. It can also be used either as a module with the LG G5 or as a separate Hi-Fi DAC when connecting to a smartphone or PC.

Other than the above two modules, the company also unveiled many other products that are supportable only in LG G5 like LG 360 Cam, LG 360 VR, LG Rolling Bot, LG Tone Platinum Bluetooth headset, LG Smart Controller, H3 by B&O PLAY to name a few. Speaking at the launch, Juno Cho, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said, "The new LG G5 will encourage owners to rediscover the true joy of a mobile life. The G5 and LG Friends are the result of many experts inside LG asking themselves if it was still possible to be innovative and unique in the smartphone space. I think once customers spend a little time with the LG G5, their answer will be a resounding yes."

LG 360 Cam is a compact 360-degree angle camera that comes equipped with two 13-megapixel 200-degree wide-angle cameras, a 1200mAh battery and 4GB of inbuilt storage, which can easily be expanded by a microSD card. It also allows uploading the photographs to Google Street View and YouTube360 as a part of the partnership made with Google.

The company also unveiled LG 360 VR, it's virtual reality headset that can only be used with the LG G5. It is a foldable 360 VR that is meant for viewing a 130-inch TV all the way from a distance of 2 metres away. A normal cable can be used to connect both the VR headset and the smartphone. Additionally, it is compatible with 360-degree images and videos captured with LG 360 Cam as well as all Google Cardboard content.

LG Rolling Bot, which resembles Star Wars BB8 droid rolls like a ball and captures images and videos with its 8-megapixel camera and the LG Tone Platinum Bluetooth headset utilises Harman Kardon sound technology. The LG Tone Platinum also comes equipped with aptX HD codec and lossless 24-bit audio. The company stated, "With a Balanced Armature design for minimum distortion, LG Tone Platinum delivers exceptionally sharp and clean sound."

The H3 by B&O PLAY is supportable with every LG smartphone model and is nothing, but a set of high-end earphones that delivers the high-quality 32-bit sound of the LG Hi-Fi Plus with B&O Play. The LG Smart Controller, on the contrary, allows users to control drones and other smart devices and can also be used to check the video stream from the drone through the LG G5 in real time.
