Google Compresses The Size of Android App Updates

The size of the updates of android applications is the only pain in the head of the Android smartphone users, as their size is sometimes more than the total size of the application. App updates on Google Play eats a lot of data while downloading, which probably annoys the users very much.

To remove this hurdle, Google developers are have introduced a new way to update any application called ‘Patching’. They will now deliver the update with “file-by-file” patching, which as a result will reduce the size of update by about 65 percent of the total size of the application if you’re using cellular data. The update size can go up to 90 percent smaller than the total size of the application if you’re using wi-fi.

The process can be easily understandable by the concept of compressing and decompressing. The company initially will decompress the old and new application, then after getting the changes in the new application, they will create a compressed patch which after downloading in your handset will get decompressed to update your application.

The facility have not been provided yet, as the company has to make it in an automatic manner for all the applications of all the devices. The latest devices like Pixel smartphone will get this facility earlier than the old handsets like Moto G smartphones. However, this process will take a bit extra time, but it surely will make the updation of your smartphone more frequent and easier.
