Paytm Rolls Out 'Inbox' Messaging Feature to Counter Whatsapp

Paytm, a leading digital payment of the country officially launched the new messaging feature called 'Paytm Inbox'. Through this, users will be able to chat, share videos, photos, contacts, live locations to anyone in their contact list. The users can also receive and send money via Paytm Wallet. In a blogpost of Paytm mentioned that What'sApp has taken so much time to introduce WhatsApp Feature ‘Delete for Everyone’. It also speaks about the new feature of WhatsApp– live location sharing.

Deepak Abbot, Senior Vice President of Paytm, said, “We have realized that besides making payments, our users and merchants also like to communicate with each other.” He further added that, “There is a need for social messaging, commerce and payments seamlessly blending into one another."

"One step for us towards meeting this consumer need is 'Paytm Inbox' where you can chat with friends/ merchants and send/ receive money effortlessly and securely. This will help us drive greater engagement on our platform and build a stronger bond with our customers”, said Deepak.

The new feature is currently available on the Android version and it will be coming soon to iOS platform and make sure that you have updated your Paytm App to use the new feature, Paytm Inbox. Tap on Inbox Option which is available on the right-hand side of the app and users can start chatting with their friends. Start messaging to your friends by tapping the floating icon on the bottom right corner and it will display you the list of numbers of your all friends those are using the app.

In the bottom row, the user will see other options including Camera, live current location, gallery, send and receive money. Paytm team tested the new feature by using a second Paytm Account with Inbox and the new feature works.

To lure users, Paytm Inbox also has other features including Notifications, Order, and Games. Under Notifications Section, users will be able to see cashback offers available across all categories. Whereas, under 'orders' section the user can check their order status and transaction updates and 'Games' section comes with exciting Cricket and trivia-based games.

If user chatting with someone who is using either older version of Paytm App or iOS smartphone, in both cases the receiver will not get any message or money requests.

The company ensures that Inbox will make payments easier, “as everyone from individuals to local retail stores to home-based entrepreneurs can now interact and initiate payments on-the-go. “, said the company.

The company added that "the messaging platform is encrypted end-to-end, and users can initiate private conversations and create group chats. They can also send photos and videos instantly, share live location, capture and share moments with the built-in camera. There is also a feature allowing users to recall their messages using 'Delete for All'."
