WhatsApp Beta brings granular Storage Usage management to Android

Messaging platform WhatsApp has rolled out a new Storage usage section. WhatsApp has offered granular storage control over its chats on iOS, but the feature was nowhere to be found on Android. According to a report by Android Police, the company has rolled out this feature for Android users, which is still in the beta testing phase. This new storage section introduces a complete and refined control over the storage used by chats on Android. This level of refined control was already present for iOS users.

Users can access the ‘Storage usage’ section by Heading over to Settings -> Data and storage usage -> Storage usage (new menu) and wait a few seconds for all of your conversations to populate and their data to be tallied. Once done, you'll see all the chats with the amount of space that each chat is taking on your device. Once you tap on any chat, it will give you a detailed overview of the chat.

The details include the number of text messages, shared contacts, shared locations, images, GIFs, video messages, audio messages and documents in any given conversation, from specific chats - here you can delete exactly what you want and keep the rest. The app gives you the amount of space that each of these elements occupies.
