WhatsApp to Discontinue in Older Android, Windows and iOS Smartphones

WhatsApp reportedly will soon drop its services from older running Android, Windows, Blackberry, iOs and Symbian smartphones. The company in February, made an announcement to discontinue its services for the above mentioned operating system devices, but later had decided to extend the plans until June 30, 2017, for Blackberry and Symbian operating systems.

The company, by the end of this year, will stop providing its services for Android 2.2 or lower running devices, iOS 6 or lower running devices and windows 7 running devices. As per Google’s statistics obtained by its own dashboard, Android 2.2 is running on only 0.1 percent of the total Android devices worldwide, most of the users are using Marshmallow, Lollipop or KitKat version of Android, so we can say that the effect will not be very huge.

Talking about Apple, According to company’s dashboard, a total of only 8 percent Apple users worldwide are using the older version than iOS 9. So, the upgrading recommendations are at its peak, as the company will stop providing services for iOS version 6.0 or lower. The users using iOS version 6.0 or lower should immediately upgrade their devices before the end of this year.

WhatsApp Updates

Windows, as we all can see is facing a bad time in the current year, and now there is one more trouble is hanging on the neck of the windows 7 based devices. Microsoft itself has upgraded every windows 7.1 device to windows 8.1 supporting device. So, if you’re still a windows 7.1 device holder, then you must upgrade your device before the end of this year to use WhatsApp services.

Now, coming to Nokia and Windows smartphones, which are already on the bottom in smartphone market across the world. There will be no surprise if WhatsApp stops providing services for these ecosystems, as the company has already stated, “these ecosystems don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future.”

Whatsapp currently holds a billion of monthly active users and is updating itself from time to time with tons of upgrades after getting occupied by facebook. Currently, the application is providing more facilities like voice and video calls rather than just messaging.
