The current generation is certainly aiming at two prime concepts to be achieved in India, namely the widespread demand of the electric scooters and the 'Make in India' initiative, which is recently incepted by the government for manufacturing the products locally. Giving a shot to this idea, two of the IIT graduates from the Bangalore-based technology startup, Ather Energy, have unveiled India's first smart electric scooter named Ather S340 in the country. Mr. Tarun Mehta, CEO cum one of the two founders of the company, exhibited the entirely home-made machine.
Delivering a chunk of new features, the two-wheeler is going to be marketed online initially. Starting the segment, the scooter upholds an IP67 rated Lithium Ion battery configuration, which can be charged up to 80% in just one hour having a life of 50,000 km and a range of 60 km. The vehicle has a 7-inch digital touch-screen arrangement with navigation details, several riding modes, vehicle chasing, customized profile, Linux-based platform and reverse mechanism. Acclaimed top speed of the scooter is 72kmph. Some of the other smart bits include theft detection, auto-indicators and remote supervision of charging on mobile app.
Tarun Mehta, when highlighting about S340, spoke, "The inevitability of electric being the future of automobiles has led us to build an uncompromising electric scooter – with a powerful Li-ion battery pack and sub-one hour charging. Our focus on connectivity as the key feature enables us to offer a host of features including personalized profiles for varying ride experience, multiple riding modes and on board navigation among the few."
One can also get a chance to test ride the scooter from Bengaluru in the forthcoming months and benefit the after-sales service at their doorsteps. According to the company, complete funding process of about Rs. 81 Crores is backed by Tiger Global and the founders of the e-commerce giant Flipkart.
