in April 2017, Bajaj Auto has indexed exports of 151,913 units (motorcycles and commercial vehicles) which is an overall growth of 46 percent on a year on year basis. As per Mr S Ravikumar, President, Business Development, Bajaj Auto, the gained hike is the resultant of brands strong performance in South Asia, Nepal and Bangladesh, said in an interview to MoneyControl.
However, the sales in markets like Sri Lanka and Nigeria are not as per the expected levels but the Nigerian market registered a total sale of almost 16,000 units two-wheelers in April 2017. Total Bajaj motorcycle which have been exported are counted 132,002 units in April 2017 as against to 91,465 units in the same time last year.
Mr Ravikumar said,”Apart from some up-down movement in Mexico depending upon what President Trump talks, the Latin America markets have been stable, Philippines has been doing very well, Malaysia, we are ready to go and everything is done and ready there. So, exports, still we will take it month-by-month because not all problems are behind us, not all countries are stable, and not all currencies are stable already. However, for the first time I would like to say that this year looks quite good, I am cautiously optimistic but after many months I am using that term exports now.”
In the domestic market, Bajaj sold out 161,930 motorcycles in April 2017, a 19 percent drop from 200,433 units sold in April 2016. Mr Ravikumar added “this is primarily because the heavy discounts on BSIII models prompted a lot of people to advance their purchase”.
Bajaj also hopes that the recently launched middleweight motorcycle Dominar 400’s exports to grow in the near future with the bike is going to launch in some more international markets in the second half of this year.
