Maharashtra Govt Considering to Implement Odd Even Rule for Mumbai

Amidst all the chaos going on regarding the odd-even rule in Delhi, everyone is eagerly waiting for the verdict as to whether it'll be successful or not. However, it's not only Delhi, which is concerned about the result. As per some reports, the Maharashtra government is also closely evaluating the new experimental traffic rule and if it works out for the capital city, then the same might also be implemented in Mumbai.

As per a statement by the NCP Mumbai Unit, Mr Sachin Ahir, “We need to implement the even-odd car number formula on roads of Mumbai as is being done in Delhi to make Mumbai pollution free. If this plan is successfully implemented, plying of as many as 50 per cent vehicles per day on the roads will be reduced. This will also help in reducing the city's carbon footprint as 26 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions are caused by using petroleum products. In addition to that the city is also seeing an increase in number of tankers, trucks, buses each day.”

The odd-even had commenced on January 1 and will continue till January 15 as an experimental strategy. On one hand, the roads are experiencing much less traffic, but on the other hand, Delhiites are finding it extremely difficult to commute. The Metros are getting overcrowded and people are just waiting for this 15-day upheaval to end.

Mumbai is not only famous as the financial capital of India, but also for the huge traffic it faces everyday. Though, local trains are the most wodely used medium in the city, yet one can't ignore the vast number of cars that are seen stuck in the traffic jams. Pollution in Delhi has already crossed the danger mark and other cities don't want to go through the same last minute hullabaloo. Let's hope, the odd-even works out well for the environment as well as for the public.
