Maruti Suzuki to Launch Vitara Brezza Petrol Variant by April 2017

It’s been almost a year since the Maruti Suzuki launched Vitara Brezza in the country with only diesel powertrain and since then it continues with the same. But reportedly, the compact SUV will soon get brand’s new 1.5-litre 4-cylinder unit under its hood. This same 1.5-litre engine configuration is also rumoured to be featured in crossover S-Cross and hybrid sedan Ciaz in next year.

The carmaker has dropped the 1.2-litre petrol engine option for the Brezza. However, this powertrain would help the company in reducing some cost of Vitara Brezza as it will take the advantage of ‘small car tax’ because of its sub-4m size and below 1.2-litre engine. Since Maruti Suzuki has dismissed this line-up for Brezza, we can expect a comparatively higher price tag for the upcoming 1.5-litre petrol variant.

Although, the locally manufactured 1.0-litre Boosterjet 3-cylinder engine is also on papers which will make its country debut with Maruti Baleno RS in the upcoming months and go against the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine of Ford EcoSport. According to the indianautoblog, Maruti Suzuki has rejected the 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine on the Brezza, finalising the K14B option from the Ciaz and Ertiga models.
