Volkswagen Tiguan GTE Active Concept at Detroit Auto Show 2016

Volkswagen has brought up the Tiguan GTE Active Concept at the North American International Auto Show aka Detroit Auto Show 2016 recently. The SUV is based on all new Tiguan that will arrive in the US market by 2017. This model is a pug-in hybrid fitted with two electric motors along with a petrol engine and happens to be an off-roader. As of now, we don't know whether the vehicle will go under production. However, report suggests that the automaker is keen on introducing atleast 2 new or refurbished crossovers in US by 2019.

Mechanically, it is fitted with a TSI 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that is efficient enough to make 148Hp and 184 pound feet torque. Moreover, the two electric motors are capable to generate 54Hp at the front and 114Hp at the rear. This power output is transmitted to the wheels via a 6-speed dual clutch gearbox. With the help of this mechanical setup, the vehicle can sprint upto 60 miles/hour in 6.4 seconds before the speed is limited to 120 mph.

Discussing the dimensions, the SUV is 176.9 inches long, 74.8 inches wide and carries a wheelbase amounting to 105.6-inches. It's 69.5 inches tall that makes it 3 inches taller than Ford Escape and a little bit shorter than Mazda CX-5. The ground clearance is 8.9-inches and the car stands on 16-inch wheels. There are 6 drive modes in the concept that include On-Road, Off-Road, Sport, Snow, Charge and Hold.

Interior flaunts a 9.2-inch infotainment display that comes accompanied by gesture control. There is a heads-up display and a fully digital instrument cluster. Further, there is navigation facility and App-Connect function that enables you to connect your smartphone to the system via Android Auto, Mirror Link and Apple Car Play. For safety, it contains pedestrian monitoring, lane assist, automatic and post-collision braking.
