Volkswagen to Launch VW Beetle in India Around December 20 this Year

Just few days back the automobile industry heard the news that German car maker Volkswagen is planning to launch a compact sedan in the upcoming 2016 Delhi Auto Expo that could act as a competitor to car models like Maruti Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze. Now, the recent developments and reports by CarWale indicate that Volkswagen is again planning to launch VW Beetle in just a few days, expected date to be around December 20.

The upcoming VW Beetle is expected to compete with the Mini Cooper S and the Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione. The current model is powered by the 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine that churns out a power of 147 bhp and is coupled to a 7-speed DSG unit that can be controlled by paddles on the steering wheel. On the features front, it comes loaded with bi-xenon headlamps, fog lamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, a rear spoiler, a dual zone automatic climate control system, a touchscreen display for infotainment system, a panoramic glass roof, leather upholstery and heated front seats.

Bookings for the VW Beetle are already open in India for an advance amount of INR 1 Lacs though the company as per reports also states that the mid-life facelift version which is due next year would have nothing more than a minor update and that it would not be applied to the Indian model until the next major upgrade is made to the Beetle in a few years. The upcoming model is expected to be priced in the range of INR 30-35 Lacs (ex showroom, New Delhi).
