Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus Now Support Google ARCore

ARCore is one of the applications developed by Google which helps to build augmented reality experiences. When Samsung launched the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus at MWC this year in February, we were expecting that the Samsung latest flagship smartphone comes with Google's ARCore support, but it did not happen. Both Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus now support Google ARCore. With the help of ARCore, developers can create more alluring and realistic AR applications for Android smartphones. Without the support of ARCore, it is not feasible to develop AR apps on the smartphones.

Till now, Google ARCore augmented reality developer platform was supported only on Pixel and Nexus smartphones and in some specific smartphones from players like Asus, Huawei, LG, Moto, and Sony. However, the information regarding the support of ARCore on Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus was initially revealed by 9to5Google.

Apart from Google ARCore support, Samsung has launched the Sunrise Gold and Burgundy Red color variants of Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. As of now, both Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus are available in four color options: Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, Coral Blue, and Lilac Purple. The company is in plans to add two more color options by launching Sunrise Gold and Burgundy Red color variants. Now the Samsung latest flagship offerings will be available in total six color options: Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, Coral Blue, Lilac Purple, Sunrise Gold and Burgundy Red. The deliveries of Burgundy Red Color variant start during this month in China and South Korea, whereas the Sunrise Gold variant will be available for purchase from June in few markets such as Australia, Chile, Germany, Hong Kong, Korea, Mexico, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam. Samsung has announced that in the remaining markets it will be “coming soon". It must be noted that Burgundy Red and Sunrise Gold variant will not be available in India right now.

Samsung, the South-Korean Electronics Giant, described the two new color variants of Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus. "The Sunrise Gold edition for Galaxy S9 and S9+ are Samsung's first devices to feature a satin gloss finish which wraps the smartphone in a tranquil glow and glimmer. The Burgundy Red edition is one of the deepest red colors available featuring restrained gloss for added density and a look that is contemporary and traditional - perfect for users who appreciate luxurious design."

"Support for the S9 and S9+ will be added in the next release, which should be released in the coming weeks”, informed by Google's AR team earlier in March.

To utilize the new feature on Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphone, users have to download the application from the Google Play Store. Additionally, install any of the applications that utilize SDK. Earlier in March, Google had introduced various gaming shopping, home, and creativity apps. All of these apps are based on ARCore 1.0 SDK. Earlier, this month Google updated ARCore from 1.0 to 1.2 along with some new features.
