Indian Railways Launched A New Web Portal For e-tendering

Indian Railways has launched a new web portal on Monday, for the e-tendering process. The new web portal is set to bring in transparency and efficiency in the tendering process of railways. The work module of Indian Railways e-procurement system (IREPS) and implementation of e-tendering in work contracts was launched by the Indian Railway Minister. At the launch event in New Delhi, railway minister Suresh Prabhu said,"this is a major step to bring transparency in the system as our aim is to put every transaction online". The minister also said that the process is an utterly important step towards information technology enablement of the Indian Railways. He further added that the current step will not only result in saving time but will also bring in the transparency of global standards.

Right now, the Indian railways deal with approximately 25,000 tenders per annum, which involves an expenditure of above Rs 35,000 crore, for maintenance of existing railways assets and creation of the new one. The newly launched web portal will have facilities for creation, publication and submission of tenders online. The facilities are intended to save time and bring more clarity in Indian Railways tendering processes.
