India Bound BMW X2, X4 to Launch in 2018

BMW India will get the availability of sporty new X2 and X4 SUVs in the country in 2018. When, Hendrik Von Kuenheim, BMW's senior VP for the Asia Pacific region asked about the mentioned products' potential arrival, he was extremely light. He said,“We absolutely see both SUVs as being the part of the range”.

And the expectation are high that one of the models will only be manufactured in India for export purpose. However, it will required a huge investment and assured commitment from German carmaker, but the Kuenheim elaborates “the days of producing cars in Germany and selling them all round the world are over. Now local sourcing is the key.”

The challenge is developing a car to match BMW’s lofty quality guidelines. Also, it can only be attained by developing a supplier base in India and some extra efforts and time. The components such as engines, gearboxes and rear axles that will be manufactured by international giants or by Indian companies will add up a substantial value to the products.

The highly anticipated X2 is the sister of X1, that is already available in the country. the X2 underpins the similar BMW’s highly versatile UKL front-wheel-drive platform. The similar chassis will also be shared with the upcoming second-gen Mini Countryman.

According to the BMW, the X2 will attract buyers who are seeking the added advantage of the high seating position offered by an SUV along with sporty DNA at the same time. The car is likely to be powered by a powerful2.0-litre BMW's diesel engine.

The X4 has a larger promising proposition. With its snug-fitting roof it stands out in the crowd. But we will have to wait for the model, as it is expected to roll out sometime in mid-2018.
