Earlier this year, the Fiat-owned Jeep made its debut here in the country with three of its most-in-demand SUVs, which includes the Wrangler unlimited, Grand Cherokee, and the Grand Cherokee SRT. Apart from the SRT variant (petrol-mill only), both Wrangle and Cherokee are available in diesel engine options, and as we reported earlier, the imminent debut of their petrol derivative had also been registered on the card. According to some media reports, the American auto major is likely to debut the petrol powered Wrangle trim by the end of this year, while no such details for the Cherokee have been out yet.
If media reports are to be believed, the petrol-powered Wrangler SUV will come equipped with a 3.6-litre V6 unit. Mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox, the engine will propel the car with a power of 285 bhp along with a peak torque of 353 Nm. Furthermore, the petrol trim is expected to be priced at INR 10 lakhs cheaper than that of the diesel model of the SUV. There are also some rumors about the petrol-powered Cherokee unit that it will also come up with same 3.6-litre V6 motor, but with a different power of 395 Bhp as well as coupled to a 7-speed automatic transmission.
Currently, the Wrangle Unlimited is being offered with a 2.8-litre, four cylinder diesel engine that makes out a power of 200 Bhp with 460 Nm of torque. A 5-speed automatic transmission is there with the engine. The Grand Cherokee, which is available in two different variants - Limited and Summit, is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel trim generating 243 PS of power and 570 Nm of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission along with steering-mounted paddle shifters is gifted to the engine.
Well, the price of the both petrol-based Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee are likely to go down by INR 10 to 15 lakh. At the moment, the former is priced at INR 71.59 lakh, while the Grand Cherokee kick out from INR 93.74 lakh (Both ex-showroom, Delhi). Besides, the automaker is thinking of introducing the all-new designed Compass 5-seater SUV by the middle of 2017.
