Mercedes-Benz, a German automaker posted some details about the upcoming model, new G-Class, before the launch which is going to take place on January 15, 2018, at the Detroit Motor Show. In this advanced world of internet, hardly any model stays away from the light of being spied and the official picture leak of new G-class favors the same.
Interestingly, the SUV seems similar to a G-Class variant. It was already known that the G-class won't compromise with its boxy silhouette looks as it makes a more vibrant appearance in mentioning G-Class. A similar instance can be taken from Jeep Wrangler where the 4th generation and new variant does not modify its appearance although changed some other specs as well.
Although, apart from the leak, some details are also revealed by the company itself mentioning a relatively rugged body-on-frame construction like before.
The changes include setup of the redesigned ladder-frame, the components of the double wishbone suspension relate to the frame instead of the separate subframe, and a combination of a double-wishbone front axle and a firm rear axle. Alongside the changes, the Mercedes-Benz also assures ‘good driveability beyond the asphalt’ with the system.
Ground clearance between the axles: 241 mm (+6mm compared to the previous G)
Tyres: 18-inch all-terrain
Drivetrain: Permanent All-Wheel Drive

The new G-class will get special ‘G-Mode’ in addition to the regular driving modes. This mode comes into effect automatically at the time of ‘Low Ratio or three differential locks are activated. For possible good off-road capability, it has adjustable damping of the chassis and best drivability of steering and accelerator. It also comes handy with 9G-Tronic automatic transmission superseding the previous model’s 7-speed unit. The new transmission has enhanced the driveability and fuel consumption capability as well.
Recently, with the record sale of 15,330 units during the December-January period, the car brand Mercedes-Benz has scaled up to 15.9% for highest ever sale, retaining the stance in the Indian luxury car segment.
On the success, Roland Folger, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, “2017 was a successful year for us and the decision to introduce the Long Wheelbase E-Class was strategic and highly successful.
