Polster To Update Volvo S60 T8 Twin Engine

Volvo declared to bring a new top-spec version of the anticipated S60. According to the preview images, it will utilize the parts of high-performance Polster and obtains an enhancement in electrified powertrain. Embellished with the S60 T8 Twin Engine Polestar Engineered, the vehicle will be placed above the T8 Twin Engine equipped with the new S60 which is expected to reveal by the next week, however, images are leaked online last month. Volvo has assured that the top-spec version of the S60 will be utilizing an revised hybrid powertrain of T8 Twin Engine and the setup includes a four-cylinder, 2.0-litre motor attached with an electric motor.

The S60 engine generates 415hp/670Nm of output, increased from the 400hp/640Nm output when considering the regular T8 model. Polster mentioned that the software revisions utilized to get this which will also unlock revised pure-electric performance and improved fuel economy, whereas it eliminates an 8-speed gearbox via using a more prominent torque-fill. The engineered parts comprise Öhlins shock-absorbers, gold-plated monoblock Brembo brake callipers, multi-link front and rear suspension and slotted brake discs. The socks are shared from the Polestar 1 hybrid performance car, indicating that they are adaptable. The front end handling is also improved with the Polestar 1 support. Furthermore, gold-coloured seatbelts and chrome exhaust tailpipes and new lightweight wheels shorts un-sprung mass that underlines link to the Polestar. 

Henrik Green who is senior vice-president of research and development, Volvo, mentioned the parts, “fine-tuned to work together, delivering a responsive and exciting driver’s car”. The Polestar Engineered sedan is among the three assured variants engineered by the Polestar, hybrid and EV brand. The remaining two will be the XC60 and the V60 models expect a launch 2019, parallelly starting a new shift of the company towards electrification. Volvo also plans to get 25% increase in the vehicle sale using electrified power by 2025.

Håkan Samuelsson, CEO of Volvo also mentioned that Electric cars are our future. Further, he said, “Today starts a new era of Volvo electrified models enhanced by Polestar’s performance engineering prowess. This strategy is firmly grounded in our shared belief in an electric future for the car industry.”  Volvo will unveil the new S60 T8 by next week at Charleston, South Carolina, first US manufacturing plant. The facility will work for the Volvo model, S60 to be manufactured in the US.
