Volkswagen Silently Introduces Vento Sport to Compete with Maruti Suzuki Ciaz S

The German carmaker Volkswagen time and again is known to produce limited editions of its Vento Sedan. This time around it has introduced the Vento Sport, a sportier version of the car.

The carmaker is yet to confirm the price tag as well as the added features of the new offering. However, as per the rumors doing the round, it appears to be a cosmetic upgrade to the previous version. This may precisely be the reason why the sports version was launched without the usual pomp and show you would normally associate with a sports car.

The discerning factors which set apart the new sports variant from the standard model are:

  • The New Red Exterior Colour complemented by the glossy black roof finish.
  • The Carbon-fibre finish ORVMs.
  • The Chrome ‘Sport’ badge on the front fender.
  • The new side foils and a glossy black rear spoiler.

Further, LED headlamps with DRLs and the 16-inch Portago alloy wheels hint towards a possible Highline Plus variant. In such a case the Vento Sport will be loaded with features such as electrically foldable/adjustable ORVMs, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, reverse parking camera with display on infotainment screen, automatic climate control. The safety features include ABS and dual front airbags.

The Vento Sport will be powered by the same engine and transmission options as the standard car. The Vento Sport will be available in three engine variants i.e 1.2L TSI petrol, 1.6L MPI petrol or 1.5L TDI diesel engine. The transmission options include 5-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG gearbox. The 1.6L MPI is available only with the  5-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the 1.2L TSI engine 7-speed DSG gearbox. However, the 1.5L diesel can be mated to both of the above-mentioned transmissions.

Compare this to The Ciaz S, Vento Sport’s competitor on Indian roads. The Ciaz S is underpinned by a 1.4-litre petrol and the 1.3-litre diesel engine churning out  92PS/130Nm and 90PS/200Nm respectively. Both the engines are coupled to 5-speed manual transmission. The petrol engine also comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Ciaz diesel also boasts of smart hybrid technology which makes it equipped with idle start-stop, regenerative braking, and torque assist functions.
