Volkswagen Upcoming Compact Sedan to be Named as Ameo

The website motor octane has recently disclosed that Volkswagen's upcoming compact sedan might be named as Ameo. This model will also be showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo along with the VW Polo GTI hatchback. If reports are to be believed, the automaker has designed and developed this sedan specifically for the India. The testing has already started at company's Chakan facility located in Pune. Earlier, it was rumoured to carry the name Bora, but still there isn't any confirmation on the official name. It looks like the same 'Name Game' that is going on with the Mahindra S101.

The upcoming compact sedan is said to be nothing but an extended version of Polo hatch, which will most probably be sharing the mechanical configuration with the latter. This would mean that it woiuld be available in both diesel and petrol categories fitted with a 1.5 litre and a 1.2 litre motor respectively. There is likley to be a five-speed manual gearbox for transmission, but an automatic transmission unit could also be offered with the diesel trim.

The company has invested huge amount of money for this project and is hoping to make it big with the soon-to-be-launched compact sedan. With its arrival, the model will be competing with the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire, Tata Zest, Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire, etc. It could be rolled out in the market at on-road price of INR 5-9 Lacs. As of now, it is known that the car will be launched by April 2016, but nothing can be predicted when it comes to cars' launch date and official names. Nudge! Nudge!
