New Volvo XC40 Expected for Global Debut at Shanghai Auto Show

The all-new Volvo XC40 is expected to make its worldwide debut in production avatar at the Shanghai Auto Show which will be flagged-off in China, April this year. However, the compact crossover SUV was previewed earlier in two concepts - the 40.1 and the 40.2, at an event in Sweden in May last year. This small 40-series SUV will sit below the XC60.

It ‘s quite unorthodox, as Volvo chose Shanghai stage over Geneva Motor Show for the global debut of all-new XC40, whereas Geneva is considered a significantly bigger platform for the automakers across the world to unveil their latest products.

There could be several reasons behind revealing XC40 in Shanghai, simply because the Swedish company is owned by Chinese auto-firm, Geely. Also, the debut event of XC40 will be complemented with the launch of production 01 SUV from the sister brand Lynk & Co. Reports suggest that both the models will be manufactured side-by-side in a new production facility in China. There is also new of all new Volvo S40 which will be joining the production line at the same plant on a later stage.
