Google’s next flagship smartphone Pixel 2, which is expected to be launched later this year, may feature the first ever Snapdragon 836 SoC processor. Previously, it was rumoured that Samsung Galaxy Note 8 may also sport Snapdragon 836 SoC but there is no confirmation of that too. As per previously released leaks, Google’s both upcoming flagship phones, Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 are likely to feature a nearly bezel-less design.

If the company launches Pixel 2 with Snapdragon 836 SoC before Galaxy Note 8, it will become the first device to sport this processor. The bezel-less design for Pixel 2 may be Google’s attempt to take on Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and S8+, LG G6, and the upcoming Apple iPhone 8 which is also tipped to have a bezel-less design. The newest Snapdragon 836 SoC will definitely give Google’s flagship device a certain edge over its competitors.

Google Pixel 2 specifications

To recall previous news, both Google Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 were expected to be released with Snapdragon 835 processor clocked at 2.45Ghz coupled with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. Among other features, Pixel 2 might have a 1440p OLED panel with a 5.99-inch display with almost no bezel. Google is likely to stick with a single rear camera with dual LED flash, rather than adding a dual-rear camera setup. It may continue with the glass and metal finish, but the glass will be near the top of the phone.

The reports claim that the Snapdragon 836 SoC will be no different than its predecessor in terms of hardware, but may come with higher CPU and GPU clock speeds. The processor is likely to be based on 10nm fabrication with octa Kyro 280 cores. The new SoC is expected to be a better performer and more energy efficient.

Although Samsung's Galaxy Note 8 is expected to be released first of the two phones, it is less likely to sport the Snapdragon 836 SoC as compared to Google Pixel 2.
