Yamaha Project INDRA: A Low-Cost Bike worth Rs 30,000

Yamaha is planning to introduce a whole new concept of a low cost motorcycle. The company has been working on a project, internally named as Project INDRA, in order to produce this low cost motorcycle. The Yamaha Motors and Research India Pvt. Ltd. (YMRI) sticking with the firm's R&D team located in Japan has given birth to this project to churn out a commuter segment motorcycle, targeting over the low cost. The Innovative and New Development based on Responsible Analysis, briefly known as Project INDRA, will be coming up with the lowest priced commuter segment motorcycle earlier next year.

The Yamaha's Group head, Purchase & Operations, Mr. Sanjeev Paul say, "The Yamaha DNA will be there in terms of excitement, affordability, fuel efficiency and performance. No other competitor can afford this kind of package and customers will get much more in our bike." The upcoming motorcycle will get manufactured at the Chennai manufacturing facility, which will be inaugurated by the production of Yamaha Alpha.

Technically, the commuter motorcycle is expected to receive an air-cooled, four-stroke engine. Being a commuter motorcycle, the engine is expected to be carrying a displacement of 110-100cc, which is mated to a 4-speed gearbox. In the manufacturing facility, the firm has allotted various sections to eight Japanese dealers, who will be providing several equipments of the motorcycle. The major components are Kayaba suspensions, alloy wheels and casting suppliers, injection molding, paint job, braking system and many more.

The Project INDRA's upcoming motorcycle will be priced at Rs 30,000 and will also be exported to the African countries. The Japanese motorcycle manufacturer is planning to expand its product line-up and business as well.
