Chrome will soon get HDR video Playback support for Android

Google Chrome for Android looks set to joining the ranks of mobile apps that offer HDR (High Dynamic Range) video playback support such as YouTube, Netflix, and Google Play Movies are among others. HDR significantly enhance the luminosity range and widens the color space, resulting in greater contrast and gives a more realistic feel and color accuracy.

The feature was spotted in the Chromium Gerrit, and expected to arrive in a future update to the mobile browser. Some HDR-capable smartphone is required to access the new feature, now lots of devices are available in the market along with the flagship phones from Sony Xperia XZ1, and Sony Xperia XZ Premium,LG G6, Samsung Galaxy S8 duo and Note 8.

Two updates to the Chromium Gerrit were spotted by XDA Developers, Google Chrome for Android will be able to extract HDR metadata (in android.media.MediaFormat), from the video container and pass it to the MediaCodec class.
